Please let me know if you are coming to this TIGS meeting. Thursday, April 19, 2012 @ 6:30 PM at Moscatiello's Italian Family Restaurant Tim
This website might help some who know their ancestor/relative lived in New York City in 1940 and possibly had a telephone. None of mine did and I kind of knew that. Maybe, someone in our group will hit paydirt. http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2012/04/search-1940-new-york-city-telephone-books-online.html Rich
Ed, >From what I understand the O'Malley's/O'Melia are from Achill Island in County Mayo. I wrote to the old Family History Centre in County Mayo many years ago and they had no record of my ancestors, so maybe they are from Dublin after all. Rich
Ed - My O'Melia was Mary Jane O'Melia, born c 1845 in Dublin? She was the daughter of John and Julia Kennedy O'Melia. Whether she was actually born in Dublin is not proved. She married John Nicholas Clayton in 1866 in New York City. John was born in Surrey, England of Irish parents from County Cork. He was a tailor by trade. He died in NYC in 1886. He lived for a short period in Troy, NY with his brother Edward in the early 1880's, but returned to NYC. I know that the O'Melia and O'Malley surname is one of the same and that the O'Malley surname is from County Mayo. I often wonder if the the O'Melia's headed to Dublin and on to England to travel to America? Actually, I never found Mary Jane's parents in America. I know this doesn't help you but this is all that I have. I thought this might be of interest to local list members. Sorry for the late notice; I just received this yesterday. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: April Meeting Agenda Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2012 14:06:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Watervliet Historical Society <[email protected]> April Meeting *Watervliet Historical Society* Our monthly meeting will be held at the museum on Monday April 9th, 2012 at 6:30 PM, followed by a presentation by Tim Myers at around 7:15 PM. OUR LOCATION: 1501 First Ave Watervliet (in former Reformed Church building) Just behind the Watervliet Public Library (corner of 1st Ave and !5th Street) Watervliet Historical society member Tim Myers will present a program on “searching for your ancestors”. Have you ever thought about where your family came from? Are you interested in your ancestors? ... Tim first started working on finding the answers to these questions for his family in 1977. He took a sabbatical from this work for almost 20 years and then picked it up in earnest again in the late 1990’s. In 2005 he published his extensive book: “The Myers Family History”. Tim’s work is not merely a family genealogy; it is a history of his dad’s family. The story of his family is a more accurate description. It contains stories of family tradition as well as personal recollections from older relatives, many of whom have since passed on. It also contains documents and numerous photographs. He continues researching and compiling information on his mom’s family. Please be prepared to ask lots of questions as Tim walks us through the process of “searching for your ancestors”. Tim has a Bachelor Degree in European History, a Bachelor Degree in Cultural Anthropology, a Masters in American History, certification in Secondary Education Social Studies 7-12, a Masters in Education Administration and Policy Study and two certifications in Education Administration. He also has completed work on a Certificate in Advanced Study in Education. He recently retired from NY State Service. One of his primary loves is history and historical research. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. *Watervliet Historical Society*
