I would like to remind everyone that Pat Connors has a button near the end of her site for making a donation. She has contributed so much to the genealogy community and the films she transcribes cost money to rent. Anyone who has used them knows how difficult most of the records are to read and of course transcribe. Where would most of us be without Pat's efforts? Lynne Sisk
I have just added another 500 Albany County naturalizations records for the Irish born covering Apr 10, 1843 to Oct 30, 1844. I only transcribed the records that show the county of birth in Ireland. You will find entries like 'Tipperary' and 'Co Tipperary'. That is because different clerks wrote it differently and I transcribed it exactly except for County Meath which many times said 'Mead' which is how one pronounces it. Also, for Londonderry County, King County and Queens County I transcribed as Counties Derry, Offaly and Laois which are the recognized names today. I have this film on long term and hope to transcribe it all for the Irish born, much like I did for Rensselaer County which can be found on the Troy section of my website. Why am I doing Albany Co, because my McEntees lived in Watervliet (West Troy) before moving across the river to Troy. I didn't find their naturalization records in Rensselaer records and I don't know why it didn't dawn on me sooner to check out Albany country records! You can find the new records on the Albany County section of my website. On the main page at the top there are drop down menus. Just run your mouse over New York State and a list will drop down, click on Albany County. As a side note, if you are research ancestors born in England or Germany, they also mention the counties where they were born. Since I only have Irish born from Albany/Rensselaer Counties, I only transcribed for the Irish naturalizations. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
TIGS Friends, I received the following email message on Tuesday. The message speaks for itself and Liam OK'd my posting it here in case any TIGS members can help. "The piece" I wrote, to which he refers, is the story of my Dunns that is posted on the TIGS web site, FYI. This is at least the third message I have received out of the blue because of that posted story. Just so you know the extent of TIGS' reach! In a subsequent message, Liam explained that he thinks James' father's name was Phillip and yesterday I did find a Phillip McNally in the parish of Carbury, Kildare, listed in an index of names in Griffith. Liam's email address is at the end of his message. He's not on TIGS list-serv so if anyone posts anything helpful to him here you might copy it to him as well or I will forward it to him. Thanks for everything. Best, Mary Lee Dunn Dear Mary, First let mecongratulate you on the piece you wrote about the Dunn Family from Derrymullen,Co Kildare which is why I am writing to you. A friend of mine JohnMcNally, Minnesota is the grandson of James P McNally who immigratedto the USA circa 1869-70. He is recorded in the Troy Census. He joined the US Army inTroy on 12 November, 1872 and served in the 7th US Cavalry. Ondischarge after his enlistment period of 5 years was up in Nov.1877 he came eastto Troy and sometime after he married Brigid White who hailed from Galway, who likewise had come to America. We cannot find a marriage cert. He returned toDakota and subsequently after a number of years went to St Paul in Minnesota. He died there in 1893 of Consumption. They had 5children. We have not made any progressin finding where he came from in Co Kildare. John McNally is 86 years of ageand I am 75. Is there any advice youcould give us to help our search? The Dunn family came from Co Kildare as didJames McNally and he also went to Troy circa 1869-70 it is that similarity that promptedme to write to you. Sincerely, Liam Healy 28 Kempton Avenue, Ashtown Dublin 7 Ireland Email:[email protected]

Hello, Mike, Just want to alert you to the fact that there were Crow(e)s too in St. Bridget's Parish in West Rutland, VT, according to the parish census of 1857. They were: Michael Crow, 28, wife Mary Farrell, 22, and three-month old Hugh Crow. In addition, the wife of Timothy Carroll, 38, was Honnor Crow, 32, and they had a son Timothy, age 2. I wonder whether there is any connection between them and the Crows in Troy, especially since there was so much back-and-forth between the two places, given their proximity and connection via rail lines. For some reason last night I got curious again about the John Boland mentioned below in the missing friends ad that Kris Cooney had so kindly looked up for me. Years back I had poked around on ancestry.com and there were sparse records for AU so I just gave up and accepted that I would probably never find a breadcrumb that would lead me to this brother of my GGgrandfather Lawrence Boland who migrated to Melbourne. But as it turns out Ancestry must have added quite a few more sources for Australia. I ended up finding an indexed death record that was the correct name, approximate age to be a brother, and with both correct parents names. I was also able to use index parameters to find a short list of marriages and births (of John Boland children) that could be for the correct John Boland, and some turned out to be for the right person. Then I located 2 trees that had been posted since I last looked with the name John Boland 1831-1880 and the one listed him from Ballymo! re, Westmeath and with the same parents (with matching maiden name) as my Lawrence Boland. I was pretty glad to find that, haven't had that little genealogy discovery 'rush' in a while. I contacted the 2 people who posted the trees and one responded quickly, so far. John Boland married a Catherine Cooney (born Jan 1833 in Galway, Ireland) in Victoria AU in 1861. What is even more interesting is that their daughter Catherine Boland, married an Edmund Crowe, who was born in Emly, Tipperary in 1850. The woman in AU who emailed me also said that much of the Crowe family from Emly , emigrated to Troy, NY.... Edmund Crowes parents were Patrick Crowe born 22 MAY 1815 in Breansha, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. Mother was Eleanor Hanley born 17 DEC 1820 in Lisobyhane, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. I wanted to share the following information that I received from the Irish American Heritage Museum recently. Of special interest is the Sunday September 16 2:00 PM presentation by Siena College Professor Emeritus Thomas O. Kelly II who will speak about the Irish Brigade and their participation the Civil War. Irish American Heritage Museum "Your Heritage.Pass it on." 370 Broadway, Albany, NY 12207 PH: 518-427-1916 - Email: [email protected] www.irishamericanheritagemuseum.org Irish American Heritage Museum Debuts "Irish in the Civil War" - Siena College Professor of History Emeritus Thomas O'Connor Kelly to Present Lecture - The Irish American Heritage Museum opens its "Irish in the Civil War" exhibit on Wednesday, August 15, at 11:00 a.m. at its new year-round exhibit center in the historic Meginniss Building, 370 Broadway, Albany, NY. "Irish in the Civil War" will be on exhibit Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 4 p.m., through Sunday September 30. The suggested donations for admission are: $3 adults, $2 seniors and free for children 14 years of age and younger. Museum Memberships are also available upon entry. Donations and memberships help fund the Museum's educational programs. "We are proud to have the exhibition at this time as the Nation commemorates the 150th anniversary of the War of the Rebellion, more commonly referred to as the War Between the States or the Civil War. It is imperative that Americans remember the sacrifices made by so many sons of Erin in the American Civil War," stated Jeff Cleary, the Museum's Executive Director. Medal of Honor Recipient Patrick H. White, St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY "Irish in the Civil War" is based on very large framed Civil War prints of artists' renderings of life in battle generously donated to the Irish American Heritage Museum by the Rev. Jeremiah Brady, SSJ, pastor of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama. Accompanying the exhibit is a brochure describing the scene in each portrayal. In addition, the exhibit includes Civil War panels from the Museum's ""Soldiers Are We: The Irish in Military Service" exhibit, which tells the story of centuries-long service of the Irish to their homelands. The Museum's exhibit features possessions of Patrick H. White, (1832-1915), American Civil War Medal of Honor recipient born in Sligo, Ireland, including his Medals of Honor, on loan from the New York State Museum, and excerpts from his diary. Patrick H. White is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, New York. Father William Corby, University of Notre Dame Fr. William Corby, C.S.C., Chaplain of the famed Irish Brigade and later twice President of the University of Notre Dame, South bend, Indiana, is a featured part of the exhibit. The Museum's exhibit highlights the role the "Irish Brigade" played in battle as part of the Union's efforts to turn the tide to victory. Fr. Corby is the centerpiece of "Absolution at Gettysburg," showing him standing on a large rock in front of the Brigade, with the men bowing down. As the blue clad soldiers knelt in solemn prayer with their flags flying overhead and the sound of fighting heard in the distance, Fr. Corby raised his right hand and pronounced the words of absolution, "Dominus noster Jesus Christus vos absolvat." Siena College Professor Emeritus Thomas O. Kelly II to Present Lecture Sept. 16 As part of the story of the Irish Brigade, Siena College Professor Emeritus Thomas O. Kelly II will present the history of the famed unit with a focus on the Brigade's action in the Civil War, at the Irish American Heritage Museum at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 16 - the day before the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, one of the deadliest in the Civil War's history. Following his presentation, he will answer questions from the audience. The legendary Irish Brigade played a key role in all the major battles of the Civil War, including the Peninsula Campaign, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Petersburg, and Appomattox. During the Civil War, the soldiers who fought in the all-Irish units that made up the "Irish Brigade" were known for their courage, ferocity and toughness in battle. The Brigade was full of larger-than-life characters, including Lieutenant Colonel James Kelly of the Sixty-ninth New York. Some say that the Irish Brigade lost more than 4,000 soldiers during the War, one of the largest body counts of any brigade, if not the largest. Its legacy is a tale of a critical and incredible fighting force, packed with immigrants that helped win the War and preserve the Union. It's a story that not only all of Irish heritage should want to learn, but also every Civil War history buff should want to know. Professor Emeritus Thomas Kelly began his professional career at Siena College in 1963. During his years at Siena as Professor of History and American Studies, he served as Assistant Dean and then Acting Dean of the Division of Arts, Head of the Department of History, Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and three terms as Chairman of the General Faculty Committee. Professor Kelly is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Siena Research Institute. Further at Siena, he originated and taught for twenty years a course on the Adirondacks - the region of his birth in Port Henry, Essex County - combining the history, literature, economics, art and music of the region. In addition to his commitment to the Siena College community, he has served many Capital Region media outlets as a military analyst - especially during the Gulf War - and thereafter functioned as military, political and general analyst. Professor Kelly is well known for his "Rating the Presidents: A Tracking Study" and many publications on the history of the United States. ABOUT THE IRISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MUSEUM The Museum is unique in the United States, where almost 40 million people claim Irish ancestry. The Museum is committed to the tenet that preserving one's heritage is vital to providing a cultural and historical foundation to future generations of Americans. The museum in the heart of Albany, New York State's Capital City, provides year-round access, especially by school groups, to exhibits, the Paul O'Dwyer Library (endowed by the family of the "great champion of the common man" - the NY Times), lectures, presentations, film screenings (most recently about the "Easter 1916 Rising"), book signings and readings (again, most recently by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Kennedy) and other special programs. The Museum was an integral force in requiring instruction in New York State's public schools about the Irish Famine of 1845-1852. Further, it is the first Museum of its kind here in America to have exhibited at the National Library in Dublin. The Irish American Heritage Museum was created by New York State Legislation in 1986 and permanently chartered by the New York State Education Department in 1992 as a 501c3 non-profit educational institution. The Museum's mission is to preserve and tell the story of the contributions of the Irish people and their culture in America, inspiring individuals to examine the importance of their own heritage as part of the American cultural mosaic. I have just added two naturalization indexes from Albany County, NY. I used Family History Library films for the data and only included the records of those where the county in Ireland is mentioned in the form for 'where born'. This is valuable information for those of us hunting the county so we can search the Irish records. I have added two new indexes, one for the 1842-43 and the other for 1850. You can find them my on the Albany NY section of my website I currently have two films and hope to gradually transcribe them for those that mention the county in Ireland, so keep checking back. By the way, many also give counties/areas in England, Canada, Germany etc. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

I forget, where did someone say St. Bernards records have been sent to? thank you very much.
Hi Jamie, St. Mary's Church records are now at St. Joseph's. I checked through the Marriages for Michael Fitzpatrick and Maria Murray in 1861, 1862, 1863 and 1865. I didn't find anything. Are you sure it was St. Mary's? I did find a Baptism for George Murray Fitzpatrick son of Michael Fitzpatrick and Maria Murray, for I think March 17, 1873. I never took Latin in School, so I had the Priests translating for me. Sponsors were : Wilhelm Murray and Maria A. Mackey. I hope this helps.
