    2. Rich Nichols
    3. Michael - What information are you seeking? A coroner's report will report the facts and cause of a death, nothing of genealogical value; ie., family data, except for the cause of death. I received a coroner's report from the City of New York when my wife's father was found dead in his hotel room back in the 1970's. All I learned of more interest was that his body was unclaimed and it was interred in Potter's Field on Hart Island in New York City. BTW, we never retrieved the body for other personal family reasons. He died of natural causes - a heart attack. He had abandoned his family back in the 1950's. The medical cause of death is important as all of us need to prepare a medical family history as far back as possible on direct lines on both the maternal and paternal side and provide it to your primary care physcian in order for them to know and understand how to test and treat you when new issues with your health arise. 3. Michael, Some time ago I looked into how to find coroners' reports from years past. I recall even calling the Police Chief's office for the City of Troy. I was told that any coroner's inquest records were the property of the individual who held that position at the time. The records were "probably stored in a garage somewhere" during the tenure of the person. There was no continuity or transfer of the records when a new coroner took over. At some point that probably changed, of course, but any coroner records from the late 1800's or early 1900's likely no longer exist. If anyone has had a different experience with coroners' records, I would love to know about it. 3. Hi Michael. Some years ago I received a coroner's report for my maternal g.father. He was killed in an accident in Chicago (Cook County) in 1895. Illinois has excellent on-line resources, and I was able to enter his name and get the case number, etc. Then all I had to do was send for the report. There was no charge for this, as the work is done through the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD). I think there would be a fee if the copying involved many, many pages. Mine was only two pages. I don't know if NY has anything like this, but you could start by googling the NY State Archives (if it's in NY that you're looking) to see what they have. Someone with more NY research experience will probably be able to give you more help. 1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] update on BOLAND - Irish Relatives and Friends 1850-1871
    2. M McAlonie
    3. I have been contacted back by three different people who are peripherally connected to these long lost AU Bolands. One recommended a very useful link ... http://trove.nla.gov.au/ to do some further research. It was great. Would highly recommend it for searching for people in AU in digitized newspapers, even pre 1850s, to mid 1900s. Books, all sorts of stuff digitized and indexed. In less than 5 minutes I had found a missing friend / family ad by Patrick Boland formerly of Ballymore Westmeath looking for his brother John Boland, ( a brother which I had found a baptism for in Ballymore but had no idea what had happened to), with a location in Victoria. Then I sadly found Patrick's obituary' listed as the brother of John in 1861. I then checked ancestry.com and there was a Patrick died 1861 in Victoria AU with Parents Patrick and Catherine Boland, with no maiden name given. Now, to locate brother Thomas!! And the parents?? Incidentally, I did not find any evidence so far that the 1866 missing family ad placed by Lawrence Boland in Troy NY was ever in fact 'copied' by Melbourne newpapers. Sad, brothers who actually want to speak never getting to get back in touch. I guess that was par for the diaspora. when it rains it pours. best, Michael ps you locals... where is Dickie Boland, now he has some new cousins to go visit!! pps unfortunately, no relations to Russel Crowe... > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2012 08:39:03 -0400 > Subject: Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] [TIGS] BOLAND - Irish Relatives and Friends 1850-1871 > > > Hi TIGS and Kris! > For some reason last night I got curious again about the John Boland mentioned below in the missing friends ad that Kris Cooney had so kindly looked up for me. Years back I had poked around on ancestry.com and there were sparse records for AU so I just gave up and accepted that I would probably never find a breadcrumb that would lead me to this brother of my GGgrandfather Lawrence Boland who migrated to Melbourne. But as it turns out Ancestry must have added quite a few more sources for Australia. I ended up finding an indexed death record that was the correct name, approximate age to be a brother, and with both correct parents names. I was also able to use index parameters to find a short list of marriages and births (of John Boland children) that could be for the correct John Boland, and some turned out to be for the right person. Then I located 2 trees that had been posted since I last looked with the name John Boland 1831-1880 and the one listed him from Ballymo! > re, Westmeath and with the same parents (with matching maiden name) as my Lawrence Boland. I was pretty glad to find that, haven't had that little genealogy discovery 'rush' in a while. I contacted the 2 people who posted the trees and one responded quickly, so far. > > John Boland married a Catherine Cooney (born Jan 1833 in Galway, Ireland) in Victoria AU in 1861. What is even more interesting is that their daughter Catherine Boland, married an Edmund Crowe, who was born in Emly, Tipperary in 1850. The woman in AU who emailed me also said that much of the Crowe family from Emly , emigrated to Troy, NY.... > > Edmund Crowes parents were Patrick Crowe born 22 MAY 1815 in Breansha, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. Mother was Eleanor Hanley born 17 DEC 1820 in Lisobyhane, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. > > Just wondering if Crowe is an interest of any of the TIGS members?? Never say never. > > -Michael > > >

TIGS has a great deal of folks who personally either own or have access to information that others are looking for. The "Irish Acts of Kindness List" consists of volunteers who have agreed to do look-ups from sources they own, subscribe to or have access to. The current list of over 70 resources is available to anyone who avails themselves to our website. The resources include but are not limited to the following categories: Church Records Cemetery Records Immigration Records City Directories Irish Resources School Records Local History Miscellaneous Other I know I have been contacted by several list members to correct an email address, update their resources, etc. Here is a sample of the layout and information this is displayed: Irish Passenger Lists, Brian Mitchell 1847-1871 Kristin Cooney-Ayotte [email protected] To view the current list go to the TIGS website http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nytigs, choose the RESOURCES link at the top of the page, scroll down to "Look Ups....". I am hoping on a lucky shamrock that many of the volunteers listed are still on the TIGS list. BUT I am also asking for ANYONE who has these resources to step up and volunteer to keep this valuable resource available. Rather than go back and make corrections to the original list, would everyone (including those already on the list) send me the name of your resource, the category it would fit into, dates the resource applies to and your current e-mail address, etc. PLEASE email me OFF LIST, in the subject line type "Irish Acts of Kindness". Since some list members are not on line as frequently as some of us, we will give it a month, with reminders. Then a new list will be compiled and our wonderful Webmaster, Jeanne, will be asked to remove the current and replace with the new as time permits. Looking forward to a barrage of e-mails. Thanks Kris Cooney-Ayotte

    3. Mike, coincidence or what!! I did the look up for you, my maiden name is Cooney. Then you find John and he was married to a Catherine Cooney.....now if I could only connect your Catherine to my Cooneys!! Kris [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: M McAlonie <[email protected]> To: NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC-L <[email protected]> Sent: Fri, Sep 7, 2012 8:39 am Subject: RE: [TIGS] BOLAND - Irish Relatives and Friends 1850-1871 Hi TIGS and Kris! Then I located 2 trees that had been posted since I last looked with the name John Boland 1831-1880 and the one listed him from Ballymore, Westmeath and with the same parents (with matching maiden name) as my Lawrence Boland. -Michael > From: [email protected] > Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2005 21:23:25 -0500 > Subject: Re: [TIGS] BOLAND - Irish Relatives and Friends 1850-1871 > To: [email protected] > > Hope this is yours Mike......Nothing on Bernard.....Kristin > > Of JOHN BOLAND, formerly of BALLYMORE, County WESTMEATH, Ireland. 3. Reverend Patrick Crowe was the pastor of St. Francis deSales Church on Congress Street in Troy in the thirties and early forties. I grew up living next to the rectory and knew Father Crowe I don't know any of his background . St. Francis is now closed but the records are at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. If you could get the date of his death, a death certificate might give your his parents' name. Good luck.
