The United States Mil Steamer Illinois, Llieutenant H.J. Hartsteine, arrived at with this news...Everything is perfectly quiet in California the only exception has been the murder and robbery of a man named Alexander Lesllie in el Dorado County, California on the 8th of August 1851, by a man named Jim Graham. The murdered was seized, tried, convicted and hung the next day. ************************************************* On Tuesday evening, about eight o clock a young French lady by the name of Lenori Franck, residing at number 194 Fourth street left her home without being observed by any member of the samily and at once proceeded to the wharf, foot of Jane Street , N.R. where she deliberately threw herself into the water for the purpose of putting an end to her existence. Several citizens heard her cries and took her to the Police statiion in a carriage, where the attendance of a physician was immediately procured and all the necessary remedies were applied to her body, but they proved of no avail and she expired at 9 o clock the same night.
