The State convention of the Knights of Columbus of New Jersey, which was held in this city, elected James A. BURNS of the City of Orange Council, State Deputy. Mr. BURNS was one of the charter members of New Amsterdam Council, K. of C., Manhattan, and was formerly district deputy for the Newark district of the order. Mr. BURNS’ election gives great satisfaction to all the councils in New Jersey. - - - - - - - >From our Elizabethport Correspondent. The National convention of St. Patrick’s Alliance, held here, was a gratifying success. The following interesting facts were shown: Strength of organization in State, 4,657; outside the State, 787, including California. Balance in hand of National Treasury, $768.18; amount expended for sick benefits and mortuary claims, $9,500. Following are the officers elected: Frank T. MAGAWN, District 7, President; William FLAHERTY, Vice-President, this city; J. E. McGRATH, Secretary, District 4; C. J. TIPPER, Financial Secretary, District 2; Lawrence DALY, Treasurer, District 8; James E. BRYAN, conductor, District 4; John CASEY, Sergeant-at-arms, District 5. Father HOGAN is making special efforts to revive interest in the Sacred Heart Confraternity. Several meetings have been held an many new members have presented themselves. >From our Trenton Correspondent. Mrs. James BURNS of 601 Chestnut Avenue, whose funeral occurred Feb. 9, was an old resident of Trenton, having lived there close to half a century. She died rather suddenly of heart trouble, being 60 years of age. Her husband is still living, and she left four children – James and John BURNS and Mrs. Peter CLARK and Mrs. Dominick FARLEY. Among those who attended the funeral were deceased brother, Simon REED of Erie, Pa., and her sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth BRANIFF, of Erie, and Mrs. Mary BULLIFONT of Newark. Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. >From our Trenton Correspondent. The members of the Catholic Club and their friends of the fair sex enjoyed an interesting entertainment Tuesday evening of last week to wind up the pre-Lenten season. Miss Ella A. MacPHERSON read the Chariot Race from “Ben Hur” and also Hesekiah’s Courtship from Ruth McEnery STUART. Bordentown contributed to the musical portion of the programme, Miss Mary CUNNINGHAM rendering the “Holy City,” by S. ADAMS; Miss K. DUGAN singing “Les Rameaux” and Miss Rose G. MONAGHAN playing a Polonaise by Chopin.
