Captain Woodward was born at Randolph, Orange County, Vermont. He came to Lockport with his father about 1820, and was one of the oldest settlers in this locality. He resided in the village of Lockport until his removal to his present residence. He was actively engaged in business here for many years, having established a bakery with a grocery store at an early age. Isaac Allen, now being engaged in the same business, and Henry Tucker, now deceased, learned their trade from him. He was twice married, C.R.Woodward of Cairo, Illinois, is the only son of the first marriage, and Chauncey B.Woodward late of Cambria, deceased and Mrs.Selina Gash of Cairo, Illinois, the only children of the second marriage. He was and exemplary man and will be remembered by his family with affection.
