New York Times, 15 March 1918 Frank L. Dowling, President of Manhattan Borough, was notified yesterday of the death in action of Michael J. Ahearn, who went "over there" with the 69th Regiment. Ahearn was an employee of the Bureau of Highways. He was popular in the Municipal Building, and many friends grieved yesterday because of the news. Mrs. Ahearn, who lives at 521 West Fifty-fifth Street, received the news of her son's death from the War Department.
