Article Text: Originally submitted by: L. Schmidt Extensive Fire One of the most disastrous conflagrations that ever visited Batavia, broke out this 3 1/2 A.M., over A. Joslyn's shoe store, on Main street, and burnt from Convert Hall Block through to G.B. Worthington's Brick Block. Loses[sic], as far as we can ascertain, are as follows: Palmer's shoe store - loss not estimated. Mrs C P Pearson's building occupied by S Cooper, harness store. Goods mostly saved; small insurance on building. E L & G D Kenyon's grocery store. Loss, on building and contents, between $8,000 and $10,000. Monitor House, Washburne & Avery. Loss, $5,000. No insurance. G W Hull's shoe store. Loss, $4,000 over insurance. G Steuber's cabinet store. loss, $5,000 over insurance. The building occupied by Hull & Steuber was owned by Mrs C Kirkham; insurance small. A Joslyn, shoe store. Loss unknown. Rosenstraus, liquor store. Loss unknown. J Baker, shoe store. Loss $1,000 above insurance. N.A.C. Wilder, insured $500. Loss heavy. Altman & Co. Goods mostly saved; furniture, &c., in upper part f the store burned. Building owned by X. Biesinger; insured. Eugene Wakeman's goods damaged by water, loss not estimated. The origin of the fire is unknown. Several small buildings and sheds in the rear were burned; loss small.
