Mr.Van Vleet was born in Seneca County, N.Y., Sept.4th,1795. He enlisted and served in the War of 1812 under General Porter and fought in the battle of Fort Erie. He was married in Seneca County in 1815, to Miss Helen Messerol, living with her before she died nearly fifty years. They had four children, two of whom are now living, Mrs.Catharine Culver and Mrs. Martha Hewitt. He moved to the town of Newfane, Niagara county, in the year 1828, being a resident about fifty years.
