The number of lives lost is 34. All the passengers of the Archer werre on deck, consisted of persons emigrating to Iowa. Ten were deck hands, or firemen engaged on the boat. One family with two exceptions, were drowned their names are given as: James Smyers, Sen James Smyuers, Jr Jane Smyers Mary Smyers Caroline Smyers Susan Dick. The survivors were a little boy named Smyers. There was also on board: an Irish family consisting of 7 or 8 persons. An American family of 3 or 4 persons 5 or 6 other deck passengers all drowned. The officers of the obat were saved, and the boy and young ladies whose names we have given and these are all. There was no register of the deck passengers, although the vessel had been more than a day out from port, and it is not probable that the friends of those who suffered, will ever have satisfactory evidence of thier death. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
