Ellison was a boatswain's mate in Commodore Perry's ship on Lake erie and pulled an oar in the boat which carr9ed Commodore Perry from the Lawrence to the Niagra. He was also with Commodore McDonough on Lake Champlain and has been 40 years in the service.
