Abbey vs. Horation G. Abbey-sues for divorce. Motion made some weeks ago hs ordered that Horatio pay $50.00 for counsel fee, and alimony at the rate of $4 a week, also that the defendant Mary, have her clothing and access at all time to the children. **************************** Supreme Court-Chambers-before Judge Mitchell - Habeas Corpus-The People ex rel and Mr Prevost vs J. M. Nelly and Ellen Nelly. This was a proceeding to test the right of the defendants to the custody of Honaria Nelly, their daughter aged 12 years. It was alleged by the relator that in October 1850, John Nelly surrendered the care and custody of the girl to the Female Guardian Society of this City, which in May 1850, by indenture of that date, bound her apprentice to the relater for the term of 10 years. About a week ago, he brought her to this city to see her parents, who have since then detained her in their custody, and now claim to have the right to the custody and service of the child. On motion of the counsel for the parents the further hearing was adjourned until Thursday a.m. ********************************************* At a very late hour on Tuesday nite officers Post and Cook were called upon to enter a house in 39th Street, where it appears an inhuman husband by the name of Patrick Smith had violently assualted his wife and another female by the name of Mrs. Mary A. Morley, thus inflicting serious wounds on the head of his better half. When the policemen took the desperate fellow into custody, he threatened to have their hearts blood beffore he would go a step, but by strength and perserverance they forced the assailant of the weaker sex to acompany them to the 9th ward station house, where he wa detained until morning at which time he was transfered to Jefferson Market Police court. *********************************** The funeral of Mr. Lees took place as was announced yesterday at the First baptist Church in Nassau Street. He was a member of the Press and the Order of Old Fellows. *********************** Tuesday afternoon, an inquest held at Mrs. Taylor's boarding house. Thoe body of a german, Thomas Berns age 32 years old. He swallowed a heavy dose of laudunum. *************************** We have to announce another of our old citizens as dead and gone today , Mr John Garvey, who it will be remembered some years since was a candidate for the Assembly in the Third Assembly District He has just returned from California. his disease was the Chagres fever. ********************************** The funeral of Commodore Warrington took place at Washington City.
