Trow of 49 Ann Street ws severely injured in the head by the gearing of a new patent hoisting apparatus. He was taken to the New York Hospital. **************************************** Oct 2, 1851, Owen Bennett seriously injured in the breast by a falling scaffold he was working on. He was taken to the New York Hospital with a fracture of the collar bone and some internal injuries of a serious nature ************************************** James McGlue second mate of the bar Lewis, Captain White arrived at Salem last Wednesday, charged with murdering Charles A. Johnson, the chief mate on last May. *************************************** Niagra Falls, Monday afternoon two members of the press Mr J.R.S. Van Vleet, of the New York Day Book and S.P. Hanscom, late city editorof the Boston Commonwealth came near losing thier lives. Mr. Hanscom stepped on dirt he thought was a shelf and slipped, he grabbed a tree as he fell. Van Vleet found a rail from the nearby fence and palced it in the crotch of a tree and on the bank and succeeded in saving his friends life. ********************************************* Cincinnati, Thursday Oct 2, 1851, Reverand Robert L. Staton of New Orleans has been elected President of Oakland College, Mississippi, in place of Dr. Chamerlain, who was killed by a student. ************************************************ A.W. Hammond was run over on Thursday on the Boston and Worchester railroad, and instantly killed. ************************************* Hon. James Graham, the only surviving brother of the secretary of the Navy, died at his residence in Lincoln County, North Carolina on the 25th ult. He respresented his district in Congress for 12 years. ******************************************* W.R. Palmer convicted at monticello fo the murder of his brother, has been sentenced to be hung on Nov 20, 1851. **************************************** Mr. Edward L. Frazier, age 19 while riding out with his mother at Charleston, South Carolina was severly injured in falllng from a horse.
