Lawrence Reily murdered his mother-in-law Mary Golding in Williamsburg on June 28. Lawrence Reily met Annie Golding in 1847 when she was fifteen years old. Lawrence saved $150 from his earning; as soon s the mother-in-law and wife got the money they turned against Lawrence. His marriage was published in the Morning Post in williamsburg. The mother-in-law went and contradicted it. The next day Lawrence went to the Editor and showed him the marriage certificate. They were married by David W. Bacon on Dec 13, 1846, at the Church of Assumption, corner of york and Yay streets, Brooklyn, New York. Lawrence said he believed that a painter who had painted the houose was cohabitating with his wife. Four years later he kills her after he finds her in bed with another man perhaps the painter. Lawrence was married to Anne Golding. He married her when she was very young. Lawrence was more advanced in years. They had lived not in the relation of man and wife but apart in some way presumed to bin in consequence of a disagreement between them or between his wife's mother (Mary Golding) and himself. Lawrence Riely told John Miley that he caught Annie in bed with another man. He stabbed Elizabeth Conroy. He stabbed his wife in half a dozen places, so as to cause death in a few minutes. Bridget Reily is the sister of Lawrence Reily, she had cousins in New York. Her cousins name is Cunningham, living at 19 21st Street. Margaret Conroy age 12 was in the house. Mary Golding is the mother of Margaret Conroy. Mary Golding is married to Patrick Golding, they lived at Williamsburg. They are the parents of Annie Golding, Margaret Conroy, and Elizabeth Conroy. Charles Henry knew Lawrence Reily about 6 years; he worked with Charles' son in law at the stables. Pugh Smith lives at 151 Forsyth Street, New York. The number of lives lost is 34. All the passengers of the Archer werre on deck, consisted of persons emigrating to Iowa. Ten were deck hands, or firemen engaged on the boat. One family with two exceptions, were drowned their names are given as: James Smyers, Sen James Smyuers, Jr Jane Smyers Mary Smyers Caroline Smyers Susan Dick. The survivors were a little boy named Smyers. There was also on board: an Irish family consisting of 7 or 8 persons. An American family of 3 or 4 persons 5 or 6 other deck passengers all drowned. The officers of the obat were saved, and the boy and young ladies whose names we have given and these are all. Mrs Knight, of Haverstraw, New York, seriously injured and taken to the ferry then to her house. Mr Dean, a resident of Delaware County has his left arm crushed, which was subsequently amputated. John Davenport, a merchant residing at the city of Troy, New York, was severely injured and is now lying at Peekskill, beyond hope of recovery. Robert Case, residing at Newburg, Orange county, New York, had his thigh fractured. They were there for the funeral of one of thier body,. An old respected resident of this city Captain Dieterich, of East Broadway. The remains were taken from his resident to saint Paul's Church and buried with the usual military honors. Capt Dieterich was a descent of the Old Knickerbocker stock, and at an early age enlisted in the regiment of general Pike. He was present at the battles of Lundy's Lane, Chippewa, the Frontiers, and others. After receiving his discharge he went into business in this city where he has reamined since. *********************************** Sunday afternoon, December 7, 1851, a male child 20 months old named Wm. Henry Powell residieng with his parents at 42 Staton Street was playing near a front window, lost his balance fell tot he floor, producing a concussion and death. **************************************** Inquest held on Dec 8, 1851 at 10 Stanton Street on Clark Craig who died very suddenly at 5:00 a.m. while in is bed. Death was disease of the heart. Clark Craig was born in Ireland, age 29, and left a wife and six small children quite destitute of means of support. The acting coroner and jurors sympathized witththe poor family and at once raised a sum of money, ufficient to defray the funeral expenses and relieve their imediate wants. *************************** A few days ago Cornelius Sullivan was arrsted by the 19th ward Police for skinning a horse in the middle of a busy street. Sullivan was sentenced to six months imprisonment at Blackwells Island. **************************************** On Saturday nite Mr Wm T. Porter hada diamond pin stolen. Porter is the editor of the Spirit of the Times. *********************************** Sunday last evening Sergeant Hervey of the Third Patrol District and officer Ellis, of Philadelphia, Captured a desperate convict, in West Broadway, named William Francis, who was consigned to 14 years of hard labor in Harrisburg State Prison for the crime of arson. He remained ther for two years and escaped. On the Rutland and Vermont railroad yesterday, when near Rutland the freight train was thrown down an embankment because of a misplaced switch. The fireman was killed and Mr Taylor, the conductor had his leg broken. Last evening the engine and forward car of the train from Newton was thrown off the track of the Worcester Railroad, by a heavy iron rail being maliciously placed on the line. One hundred passengers narrowly escaped death. The five o'clock train from Milford last evening, ran over an Irishman, killing him instantly. Yesterday before noon a train on the Branch railroad, between Salem and Lawrence, ran over a sleigh containing a gentlemen and several children. The gentlemen and one child were instantly killed.
