Article Text: Isaac LEWIS was found drowned in a bathtub in the basement of No. 52 Ludlow street this morning. When found he was lying full length under the water. Morris GORDON, the proprietor of the bath, said that LEWIS went to him early this morning, and said he felt as though he would die if he did not have a bath. He new the old man as the sexton of B'nai Israel Synagogue, on the floor above and, as LEWIS was very poor, he let him have a bath. The man suffered intensely from heart disease. CHICAGO, July 7, A United Press special from Cairo, Ill., says that Nelson Howard, colored, who shot dead John Kase, Wednesday at Mound City, was taken from jail at 2 o'clock yesterday and hanged. CRUSHED TO DEATH. Three Men Killed and Several Injured by the Falling of a Derrick. LAMONT, Il., July 7. – Yesterday while a large number of men were engaged in hoisting stone on a 8-guy derrick in Walker's quarry three of the guys broke and the stone with the derrick fell with a terrible crash upon the workmen below. Thos. Rogers and John Bloomington were crushed to death. Dennis Rogers was fatally hurt and seven others seriously. Mrs. Bulger Wants $5,000 for Killing of Her Husband. Mary Bulger is suing William Horsell in the Superior Court for $5,000 damages for causing the death of her husband. It will be remembered that Horsell struck Bulger on the head with a club in the saloon of the former, on Grant Street, last April. Horsell was indicted and tried for manslaughter, but was acquitted on the ground of self-defense. ALLEGED WIFE-BEATING. One of Her Ribs Broken and Other Severe Injures. Robert N Boosinger of No. 351 Seneca Street was arrested by Specials Sullivan and Holmlund late Thursday night on a charge of assault in the second degree. The accusation was made by his wife. She claims that he brutally assaulted her. Early yesterday morning she went to the Finch Hospital, and there it was found that one of her ribs was broken and she had other severe injures. He claims that she is not his wife and that she fell down stairs while on a drunk. Boosinger is still locked up. ONE MORE BURGLAR. He Confessed the Offense and the Stolen Goods Were Recovered. M. J. Sanderman’s carpenter shop, No. 66 Eagle Street, was entered one day last week and a lot of carpenter’s tools and a fancy table stolen. Detectives Taylor and Reagan last night arrested J. W. Canton, a painter, 30 years of age, on a charge of burglary and larceny, and recovered the stolen property. He admitted stealing the goods, and yesterday morning Justice King held him for the Court of Sessions. He has been arrested for similar offenses in Cleveland and Toledo. Patrick McNULTY, one of Dubuque’s best known citizens, died at his home on Dodge Street Feb 9. He was a kind and loving husband and father and his many friends regret to hear of his death. Mr. McNULTY was born in the County Fermanagh, Ireland, 53 years ago, and came to America when a youth. He has resided in Dubuque the last 32 years. He was at one time park custodian, and has held several other good positions since that. He leaves besides his widow and one daughter, three brothers and two sisters, Charles and Thomas of Dubuque; John of Sioux City; Mrs. Frank ABERIE of Chicago, and Mrs. John HENNESSY (Hennessey?) of Camargo, Ill. The funeral was held at the Cathedral where Requiem Mass was celebrated. That he was held in high esteem was shown by the large cortege that followed his remains to Key West. Deceased belonged to the Dubuque Benevolent Society and the Modern Woodmen of America. The pall bearers were Patrick McCOLLINS, Pa! t! rick POWERS, Patrick TRAINER, Patrick O’MEARA, Patrick Neary, and Patrick McCANN. >From our Dubuque Correspondent. Mr. Patrick CAVANAUGH, superintendent of the Cloquet Lumber Company and one of Davenport’s pioneers, died suddenly at Cloquet, Minn., Feb. 4. Patrick CAVANAUGH was born in Queen’s County [County Laois], Ireland, Aug. 6, 1827, so that he was in his 72d year. He came to this county and was married in Louisville, coming to Davenport a couple of years later, on July 2, 1856. He was an upright and respected citizen and had the esteem of all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Mary CAVANAUGH, one daughter, Mrs. W. P. HALLIGAN, and one son, John E. CAVANAUGH. Four sisters also survive, Miss Ann CAVANAUGH, Mrs. Patrick SHEAHAN and Mrs. Henry HANSEN, all of this city, and Mrs. Robert MORAN of Waterbury, Conn. His funeral was held at the Cathedral, where a Solemn High Mass of Requiem was celebrated by the Very Rev. Father DAVIS. >From our Dubuque Correspondent. Mr. P. C. JONES, an old time resident of this city was called to his eternal reward Feb. 6. His death was due to an attack of the grip primarily. Mr. JONES was born in Crosswell, County Galway, Ireland, and would have been 64 years old on March 17, next had he lived. He came to America in 1865 and engaged with the Mississippi and Missouri Railway Company. The following year he assisted in bringing over the river the first locomotive engine that ever landed on Iowa soil – the locomotive was brought over the river on ice, being mounted on sledges and drawn by horses. At the breaking out of the war he was caught at Holly Springs and there engaged in the Confederate arsenal, where he remained until 1862 when an opportunity to get through the lines offered itself and he succeeded in getting into the Union camp at Rolina, Tenn., then in command of General ROSS. He remained with the army until 1863, when he came North and was given back his! ! old position with the railway company, which he retained until 1891. Mr. JONES is survived by two sons, Oliver P. JONES, chief clerk of the motive power department of the Denver and Rio Grande Railway, residing at Denver, and Christopher M. JONES, locomotive engineer in the employ of the C. R. I. and P., residing at Kansas City, and three daughters, Mrs. J. H. KANE of St. Paul; Mrs. Frank HARRISON, and Mrs. Marie COSGROVE of this city. The funeral took place from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Father DAVIS celebrated a High Mass of Requiem, with the Right Reverend Bishop presiding. Miss Katie SHEA died Feb. 10 at the Convent of the Good Shepherd. She was an orphan girl who has lived at the convent since she was a child. Among her kins-people in this city are John J. SHEA and Mrs. CASEY. >From our Memphis Correspondent. The Very Rev. James McFADDEN, the distinguished Irish patriot and priest, lectured at St. Peter’s Church, Sunday, Feb 12. He has been in America a little over two years. His mission is to raise funds to build a cathedral at Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. The work was not taken up of his own accord, but was placed upon him by the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. O’DONNELL. He is the pastor of a very large church, there being more than 1,000 families in the parish and from 2,000 to 3,000 people are under his pastoral charge. Father McFADDEN is much gratified at the cordial reception accorded him in Memphis, and the interest manifested in his work and the subject of his lecture. President James T. EGAN called the business meeting of the association to order shortly after 8 o’clock. The following officers were then elected: President, Mayor CRONIN of Pawtucket; Vice-President John FLANAGAN, Esq. Owing to illness the newly elected president was not able to be present and Vice President FLANAGAN was escorted to his chair by Father CRAIT and Daniel J. McOSKER. Secretary Joseph M. TALLY and Treasurer Rev. Brother PETER were re-elected, and as members of the Executive Committee Terence O’REILLY, Rev. James CRAIG and John FOGARTY were elected. (McKenna) SMITH, wife of John J. SMITH, died at her home, 50 Olo Street, Feb. 10, of pneumonia after four days’ illness, aged 30 years. Mrs. SMITH was born in Shurbern, N. Y., and was the daughter of Felix and Mary McKENNA. She came to Blackstone some 15 years ago, where she resided until some three years ago, when with her husband she removed to this city. On June 6, 1894, she was married at Blackstone, in St. Paul’s Church, by Rev. Father POWER to John J.
