Article Text: New York, Jan. 23.--After kissing her three children half a dozen times and telling them to be good until she returned, Mrs. Rosie REIFMEYER, 27 years old, went to the roof of a five story tenement house at 428 East Eighty-second street, today, and committed suicide by jumping from the roof. She died instantly, every bone in her body being broken. A note written by her in Hungarian was found in the room, which in part read: "You will never have a chance to quarrel with me again. As long as I don't suit you I am going to get out of the way, so you can get another woman. I am tired of living." REIFMEYER stoutly denied that he had quarreled with his wife, and declared he could give no reasons for her act. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Unable to Decide Whether or Not He Will Again Try Suicide. Article Text: Of pleasing address and evidencing all the earmarks of refinement, Jerome DESWICK, 57 years old, of 277 Third avenue, New York, was given a hearing before Recorder STACKHOUSE in Camden yesterday on a charge of attempting suicide. "Yes, sir; that is right," replied DESWICK to the charge. "Are you still of the same mind?" Inquired the Court. "Why, can you accommodate me?" was the surprising response. DESWICK was told that he could not be assisted in ending his life, and when pressed further as to whether he would try to commit suicide he replied he could not tell. In consequence he was locked up until his relatives are communicated with. DESWICK tried to leap from the ferry boat Beverly on Friday night while the craft was going from Philadelphia to Camden. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Article Text: Rochester, N. Y., May 20.--Miss Helen D. FARRON, aged 40, collapsed today immediately after witnessing the wedding of her sister, Miss Margaret FARRON, to William PYNE, in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Miss FARRON had never been separated from her sister before and the affection of the two women for each other had often been commented upon. While Bishop Thomas F. HICKEY was celebrating the nuptial mass Miss FARRON sat in one of the front pews weeping bitterly. When the newly married couple left the cathedral Miss FARRON fell to the pavement. She was taken into the sacristy, where the last rites of the church were given and a physician summoned. The wedding party was also called back. Just as the bride returned to the church and before medical aid could be secured, Miss FARRON died. Coroner Thomas A. KILLIP granted a certificate of death from heart disease. Miss FARRON had been in good health up to the time of the ceremony. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! Scenery Painter of 21 Wants Marriage With Woman 65 Annulled. Article Text: New York, Oct. 17.--That he was out of his mind when he contracted the alliance is the reason given by John DURKIN, a scenery painter, 21 years old, for asking for an annulment of his marriage to Ann DURKIN, who owns up to 65 years. The case will come up in the Supreme Court tomorrow. Mrs. DURKIN, who has sons and daughters older than her husband, conducted a boarding house in Ocean Hill. DURKIN was one of her boarders. According to his story, he went home one night last July suffering from the effects of sunstroke. Then it was, he alleges, that he was trapped and taken to a minister's house by his landlady. When they left he was married. He declares that the only part he took in the ceremony was to nod his head when the minister asked some questions. He does not remember anything that was said. The following day DURKIN was taken to the Kings County Asylum for the insane. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! A Persevering Suitor Pleads Too Often and Loses His Life. Article Text: New York, May 19.--Rosanna ROSITTA, wife of an Italian dock laborer, stabbed to the heart this morning Gillarde W. GINDICE, who had been a boarder at her house. The tragedy occurred in the top floor of the six-story tenement, 14 Monroe street. The boarder died soon afterward at the Governeur Hospital. When ROSITTA went to work this morning GINDICE, who boarded with him, was still in bed and pretended to be sleeping. As soon as the husband went out he arose, and, finding himself alone with the woman, asked her to elope with him. Mrs. ROSITTA ordered the fellow out of the room, and then fled to the kitchen. He followed, and the people in the house heard loud talking. Then they heard a scuffle, followed by a scream. Next came the sound of a heavy fall and Mrs. ROSSITA flung the door open. In her hand she held a dagger, made from the sharp end of a bayonet, with twisted rope wound around for a handle. It was red with blood that dripped from the sharp point to the floor. "I have stabbed him," she said. The dagger had been driven to the heart of the man. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NY-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
