I don't see a >listing for the 2nd Regiment anyplace. I searched my CD-ROM copy of the "Official Records" and found the name Onderdonk as associated not with the 2nd Regiment, but the 1st Regiment Mounted Rifles (Calvary). Don't know how to interpret that; possibly Col Onderdonk had field command of several other units including the 2nd Regiment during some battle. Dyer's Compendium lists the following "2nd Regiments" from NY: 2nd REGIMENT CAVALRY. (HARRIS LIGHT). Org. Aug. 9 to Oct. 8, 1861. 2nd REGIMENT VETERAN CAVALRY. Org. at Saratoga Springs, and mustered in by Co's., Aug. 15 to Dec. 30, 1863. 2nd REGIMENT MOUNTED RIFLES. Org. at Lockport and Buffalo, and mustered in by Co's. Oct. 31, 1863, to Feby. 13, 1864. 2nd REGIMENT PROVISIONAL CAVALRY. Org. June 17, 1865, by consolidation of the 6th and 15th Regts. Cavalry. 2nd REGIMENT HEAVY ARTILLERY. Org. at Staten Island, and mustered in by Co's., Sept. 18 to Dec. 12, 1861. 2nd REGIMENT INFANTRY ("TROY REGIMENT"). Org. at Troy and mustered in May 14, 1861. 2nd REGIMENT STATE MILITIA INFANTRY.
