Hi! My name is Gary James and I am seeking any info I can find on a Hiram/Hirum B. Seamans/Seamons. One account states that his birth was abt. 1847 in NY, but both facts are still unconfirmed. His granddaughter said during an interview that she thought he was from around Elmira, NY, that she thought he was a blacksmith in the Civil War and that he had a brother named William. --- I'm afraid that is about all we know about this man's early life. B. Auten did a look-up for me and found "3-30 Seaman Hiram M 32 b orange widower mechant. - 1865 hurley 26 reg mo. 9 19 61 sgt 2n and lst lt in 39 mon wounded" listed in the "26th REGIMENT INFANTRY.--("2nd ONEIDA REGIMENT.") Organized at Elmira, N.Y., and mustered in May 21, 1861" I am fairly confident this is the person I have been looking for because all the puzzle pieces (with the possible exception of an age calculated upon an indefinite date of birth) seem to fit. At some point in time, obviously after 1865, he, and/or his family, migrated to Iowa, as he married a Katherine Siglin on 18 Apr 1878 in Fayette Co., IA. I make known to this list the desire to know more and make a request for assistance in acquiring the history of the 26th NY Regiment. -- Its battles. Its deployments. Its roster. Etc. Thanks in advance for any assist. Gary James -- Oklahoma pentaby@alltel.net
