Ann, you are correct usually the local Town Clerk (Registrar of Vital Statistics) completed what was called a Militia Enrollment list for their town. The information contained included name, dob, address, occupation, age, prior military service and exemptions. The men on the lists enrolled went up to age 45. For W.W. 1 these lists were compiled in June of 1916, a local draft board was also appointed which eventually completed the drafts of men selected for service. Example below; date name address age dob occupation 6/20/16 Doe, John New Windsor 31 11/19/1885 Telegrapher prior service exemption Signal Corps 1911-12 Private -- Glenn Marshall - New Windsor N.Y.
