I might suggest that much military information can be found by using this route; http://cyndislist.com Go To "Military Resources Worldwide" Go To "U.S.-Civil War ~ War of Southern Independence" or "U.S. Military" And Surf the Sites under these 2 Headings. Most people will find a lot of the information that they are asking for and also get an education. You may also find personal information if he had a widow who got a widows pension. Check 1850 US Census. There are State Census in New York, this is many times overlooked but is detailed and a souce of much information. Even though you may not find info about him exactily it will tell you about the time and the area that he came from, his family. You never know what you will find that is the pleasure of Genealogy.
