My Ancestor is Ashael Stark, who fought with Col. Peter Yates' Regiment of Militia, in the County of Albany, New York. We have pay vouchers with various dates, which don't apparently indicate the date of the battles. To say that the pay was slow wasputting it mildly. Our family has a group of family members that have been sharing information for years. One of our cousins sent a copy of a page from a book that he found at the library. It was "Revolutionary War Rolls". On page 409 was a pay roll of Captain William Shepherds' Company, Col. Cornelius Doutys' Regiment, in a regiment of foot, of the State of Vermont, from the first day of August to the fourth day of August 1781, in alarm at Saratoga. There is a list of 17 men on this payroll. The majority of them are from Albany County, including my Ashael, and others of his family. Ashael fought both in the Militia, and The line, (land Bounty Units). Ashaels' brother William Stark states that his unit served at Fort Stanwix. I have the names of those who served at Saratoga. They are as follows: Captain William Shepherd Lt. Christopher Stark En. Francis Nye Q.M. Josiah Root Sgt. Maj. Israel Shepherd Sgt. Rice Honeywell Sgt. Joseph Martain Sgt. Titus Monson Jacob Vaniormer Joseph Benedict Oliver Benedict Laurence Dutcher Felix Holdredge Wilerstone West John Price Jr. Ashel Stark Jonathan Price Pay table office, Bennington, March 1, 1782. The above account being approved of, the treasurer is hereby directed to pay unto Captain William Shepherd or order, the sum of twelve pounds , ten shillings and nine pence. Signed Isaac Tichenor Nathl. Brush Committee Treasurers' office, Sunderland, June 14, 1783. Recd. of Ira Allen Esq. Treasurer, the contents of the within order, in behalf of Captain William Shepherd, Israel Shepherd There was a note at the bottom of the page that states that none of these men were found in the 1790 Vermont Census. I have other pay vouchers from the Albany 4th, and the Albany 14th. Please let me know if you find anything on any of these units or the men who served in them. It seems as though they were loaned to Vermont for this special battle. Pauline Stark Moore moore50@aol.com --part1_e6.5fedddf.26644d9b_boundary-- --------------62DDDBFAEC7FD4AF2AFF8AED--
