Recently I went to the site of the Andersonville Prison Camp and Nat'l Cemetery in Andersonville, Ga., about 10 miles from Americus, Ga. It was a very interesting and moving experience. In the visitors center, you can watch a short documentary type film about the prison camp during the Civil War. There are also 2 computers where you can enter in names to see if any relatives were imprisoned there. They also have a pretty large collection of all kinds of books, pamphlets, etc., about the Civil War and those connected with it. I bought a CD for $20, "The Prison Camp at Andersonville" interactive CD-ROM. This CD includes the Andersonville POW database. I couldn't decide whether to buy it or a small book with all the names of the men who had been imprisoned or died there, or were exchanged. Individual graves were quite easy to find via a numbering system, but a car is necessary to get from one place to another. It is quite a large cemetery. I also purchased a book about the Cemetery, but I have put it somewhere where I would know where it was if I wanted it. I'm sure you all know what I mean. However, I do have a little brochure, "Visit Andersonville Civil War Village". If you wanted to write for more info, I feel sure if you addressed a letter to Andersonville Nat'l Cem, Andersonville, Ga.,31711, it would get there. Just thought I'd share some of this info with everyone. I have wanted to go there for a long time, it was worth the wait, and the trip. Joy E.
