Hi John, As a teenager I read a book about WWI written by William T. Scanlon. Title was, "God Have Mercy On Us." Not that long ago I found it again in a library sale of books. Author Scanlon was an NCO in the 97th Co., 3rd Battalion of the 6th Marines. Naturally this would place him with the 2nd Division which was known as the, "Racehorses" because it was made of one brigade of marines and one brigade of regular army. Pershing would often use the natural competition between the two brigades to achieve minor miracles on the battlefield (such as the storming of Blanc Mount). Don't know if this is of any help but the book was published in 1929 by Grosset and Dunlap. It's still a good book.
