    3. Hello all, For Eddiejo: Please forward this to the Database CINC. For Ellen: For the information of the W1812-List database guru, I have limited or delimited or done some other fool thing to the fields using commas (at least I think that is what I did). Please tell me, in terms a 3d grader can understand, what I need to do to this document to simplify your putting it into a database. I have lots more to come, so hurry. I have just been working on these microfilms from the LDS Library in Salt Lake. I have not finished yet, but will start this document anyway. This is from a series of microfilms, covering the entire nation. This is for New York with a small conclusion for New Jersey only. (My document 1 of 5 Cataloging New York Military Units in the War of 1812) LDS Film #'s 1715895 thru 1715899. NARA Microcopy No. T-817 Lists of the Adjutant General's Office for Carded Records of Military Organizations: Revolutionary War through Philippine Insurrection "The Ainsworth List" Roll 23 War of 1812 New York (Lists 27-84) LDS Microfilm # 1715895 War of 1812 Catalogue of Indexes Drawer No. 20 My explanation of abbreviations: Battn=Battalion, Regt=Regiment Arty=Artillery Inf=Infantry L. Inf=Light Infantry Mtd=Mounted Cav=Cavalry My comment: The unit names were enclosed with parentheses and some abbreviations contained apostrophes which I eliminated in the interest of saving typing time and archival space. I also rearranged some data fields to facilitate data management. (ie., all listings did not maintain the same order for the fields, I corrected this to allow sorting by fields. mvp Jan 2000). My comment: Guru, do not allow anyone to convince you to move the Commanders' names, which I have listed in the remarks field, into the unit name field. NARA does not put them there and all units are not named, and/or are not named after the current commander, so this would, in some cases, provide misinformation. That can be worse than no information. The fields may require additions, we'll see what I run into. Where a unit was listed as more than one type, I have added alpha subs to the number to allow the double listing for the same unit.
