Lydia, The description you gave doesn't sound like pension papers. Are you sure you didn't ask for military papers instead of pension papers? You have to ask for them on separate forms from NARA? Did you get the papers from NARA? The pension papers for my great-grandfather do have a physical description similar to what your papers show, but the rest of what you have sounds like a military record.
