John Park of Mendon, Monroe Co. NY. He served in the war of 1812. Don't have much more than that. Am interested in finding out about his military records. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks. Have you tried NARA for a pension? Since he lived until after the 1835 law granting Rev. soldiers a pension they may have a statement from him. Or possibly land grant records. Do you know what county he lived in? If so, you can try county histories. If your ancestor served in the NY Militia, nearly all of the service records were destroyed in a 1911 fire. The NY State Archives will search for bounty land files, however. For a summary of their holdings for all wars and for ordering information, see this site: http://www.sara.nysed.gov/holding/fact/mil-fact.htm -----Original Message----- From: Sue Wilson [mailto:sew@gate.net] Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2000 5:51 PM To: NY-Military-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NY-Mil] Rev. I had checked with NARA, and there was no record there... Would anyone have the address as to where I write for this? Also, the cost, and do I use the NARA 80 form? Many thanks, SueW sew@gate.net

If he were skilled, he may have been a warrant officer rather than a petty officer. A warrant officer is below that of the regular officers in the Navy but above the enlisted class. Is there some kind soul who would look-up pension information for me on two of my ancestors from the Revolutionary War? One is John LaDieu (LaDue, LaDoo, LaDiew, LaDu, LaDow) he enlisted from Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY and died in Otisco, Onondaga Co., NY. in 1821. Also looking for information on John Lindebeck (Lindaback, Lindabeck, Lindebeek) from Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY where he lived, died and is buried. Thank you in advance, Lydia Granda

I found one Rueben Stickney in the "Index of Revolutionary War Pension Applications in the National Archives" published by the National Genealogical Society in 1976. The names are of the men that survived until the federal government offered them a pension in 1818. The federal government lost most of the records of the Revolution when the British burned Washington, DC in 1814 The information is; Rueben Stickney, Continentals, New Hampshire, claim # S 42405. Hope this is the one you are looking for. I have Revolutionary War veteran ancestors that also lived in Monroe County, NY. Perhaps land in this area was given as bounty to the veterans for their service during the war? Carl Carter

Is your father alive? If so, he is the only one that can get them. If he has passed away go to http://www.cyndislist.com and follow the military links. She has a lot of different ones. While many of the WWII papers were destroyed in a fire they can be reconstructed. You will find a form that you can print out and then fill out and send in. Another source is to try the county clerk's office in the county that your father was enlisted from or drafted from. Many servicemen "registered" their discharge papers upon returning. The counties vary in the kind of information that they might have. This should get you started I hope. It takes time but you will soon be an "expert" on finding WWII papers. Good luck. From looking at just the responses sent to the list, I would have thought Ida got no help. Apparently there are a lot of people on the list with some information to share about Ringgold. It might help others if replies were sent to the list, as well as to the person asking the question. I would have liked to have seen the answers, as Ringgold is one of my interests. It's really pretty easy to reply to both the list and the person mking the inquiry. Just use the "REPLY TO ALL" feature on your mail program, instead of just REPLY. Jim, Have you tried the National Archives or the NY State Archives? Mary
Hello list; I have had so many good people answer my query on Ringgold, Ga, it has been just great. I don't think I missed any thank you's, but wanted the whole list to know what great help I got. Ida
Looking for information about ancestor Rueben STICKNEY, Revolutionary War soldier from Sweden, Monroe County, N.Y. I have searched the list's archives with no results. Also found no relevant links at www.revwar.com. My genealogy page on him - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jimward52/gardner-stickney.htm Thanks! Jim
Hello listers; I have been looking unsuccessfully on the net for Civil War info on Ringgold, GA, April 1864. What might the battle(s)) have been called, and does anyone have a site that might tell about it. Was this part of Sherman's march to the sea? I have gg uncles, one wounded and one taken prisoner by the confederates at Ringgold, both in the 92nd IL Volunteer infantry, and would like to learn more about the battle(s).. Thanks for any pointers. Ida RODRICK WIESE Minnesota
See the NY State Archives military record information page: http://www.sara.nysed.gov/holding/fact/mil-fact.htm A couple of relevant sections from that page: Spanish-American War. Will search Abstracts of Spanish-American War Military and Naval Service (B0809). Series B0809 includes data on both regular U.S. Army and Navy and National Guard personnel. The National Guard data is summarized in New York in the Spanish-American War, 4 vols. (Albany: 1900-14). N.Y. State Militia/National Guard. Archives holds registers of N.Y. Militia and National Guard commissioned officers (1800-1909) and National Guard muster rolls (1878-1954). The rolls give no personal data other than name and rank, and date of appointment or muster. The registers and rolls are not indexed; therefore Archives staff will not search them. -----Original Message----- From: JTMatBat@aol.com [mailto:JTMatBat@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2000 2:08 AM To: NY-Military-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NY-Mil] Re: SUBSCRIBE Hi, Does anyone know how to access New York National Guard records?
