Hello Researchers, >From the book, "Southfork: Land and People of East Hampton, by Everett Rattray I have reworded this slightly from the book. At the moment, I have not connected this Joshua Edwards to the Edwards that my family connects to, in LI; but am sure it is only a matter of time. Joshua Edwards slipped his gold into his boots as the Confederate raider "Shenandoah" pursued the whaler "Jereh Perry" in the Bering Strait in 1865. The war was over; but neither the whalers nor the Confederates knew it. The "Perry" escaped and the gold helped put David (third son of Joshua Edwards) through medical school decades later. I borrowed this book through inter-library loan recently and it has since been returned. Joyce in CA http://www.geocities.com/jarmscoop
