For phone books, maps, and other resources you probably want to make an extended visit to the Queensborough Public Library in Jamaica. Upstairs is the Long Island Room and it houses a wealth of treasures. For newspapers you probably want Hofstra's Long Island Studies Institute in Hempstead.
