I have been searching for years for a marriage application/license and wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions. The marriage took place in April, 1900, at a Roman Catholic church in Far Rockaway and I have the church record. What I need is the marriage application/license. I have received negative responses from: Queens, Kew Gardens NYC Municipal Archives on Chambers Street NY State Dept of Health, Albany Hempstead (which covers Nassau County) Queens County Clerk, Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica The envelope I sent to City Clerk, Central Ave., Far Rockaway, was returned as undeliverable - thus never opened. And their phone number of (718)327-7402 is not in service. Is there an address for Far Rockaway City Clerk or any other local place to get a Far Rockaway marriage record? I have searched numerous bride/groom index and certificate films from the LDS, covering all the boroughs. I have reviewed numerous websites, BUT the year 1900 in Far Rockaway seems to fall through the cracks. I contacted an advertising NY researcher who only looked through the same LDS index I told her about. Sure would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Harriet
Hello, Looks like Muni and FHC are your sources: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pfagan/qnsrestv.htm However, have you checked the Groom Index at the New York Public Library? It provides an index to certificates by year, borough, groom's surname, and provides date and cert#. The Groom Index cover the years 1898-1937. Whether you can get an actual scan of the certificate I do not know. ~~C~~
