Brooklyn Daily Eagle; 1 May 1896; p 1 CARDS IN A POLICE STATION == CAPTAIN O'REILLY DISCOVERS SIX OF HIS MEN PLAYING Captain Miles O'Reilly this morning forwarded to police headquarters charges against Patrolmen James A Morley, Matthew J Murphy, James Burke, Denis Maher, John J Murphy, and Doorman Fred S. Blay. The captain says that on Wednesday afternoon he caught the six men named engaged in a game of cards in one of the sleeping rooms. There were chips on the table in front of players, it is alleged, but there is not charge that they were playing poker. There is a rule which expressly prohibits the use of playing cards in police stations. The men may play chess, checkers or dominoes. transcribed by Barb
