    3. Wow, that's a big error! I try my hardest when transcribing to get it right. Another forewarning, I was viewing a nice, neat, perfectly clear Marriage image that was transcribed as 1810. When I opened it the date atop was really 1910. Pretty confusing with all of our common Irish names. I found several Murphy's that I was looking for and a few other surnames. One thing to be aware of, there are BMD registers listed for the parish of Donaghmore in Co. Donegal. This is a mistake!! The parish IS Donaghmore, but in Co. Tyrone. I know this for a fact since my ancestors lived in Co. Tyrone. Also if you look up the townlands you'll see that they are in Tyrone. Other than that, it's great that these registers are online! All of the information is cut and pasted from their site. I'm viewing unbelievably old marriages from Armagh, with paper that appears to be more like woven cloth, with distinct interweaving. Add to this pen and ink handwriting, and this is rough to transcribe. Barb Search > Birth, Marriage & Death Ireland, Select Catholic Marriage Registers, 1775-1912 Source Information Ancestry.com. Ireland, Select Catholic Marriage Registers, 1775-1912 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014. Original data: Celtic Catholic Registers. Digitized images. Dublin, Ireland: E-Celtic, Limited. About Ireland, Select Catholic Marriage Registers, 1775-1912 This collection includes Catholic marriage registers from 62 parishes in Ireland, with dates ranging from 1775 to 1912 (noninclusive; coverage will vary by parish). The details found in marriage registers vary but can include: names of bride and groom residences of bride and groom parents names parents residences marriage banns any impediments to the marriage (e.g., consanguinity, age, previous marriage, etc.) marriage date name of officiant names of witnesses and their residences Although the Church of Ireland was the established state church from 1536 to 1870, Irelands population remained overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. According to the 1861 census, almost 78 percent of the population was Catholic; by 1891, this had risen to 89 percent. This fact makes Catholic parish registers, where available, particularly valuable sources for Irish family history, both before and after civil registration began in 1864. 3. It's a big error but the handwriting, ink pens, rough textured paper can be so distracting. Probably the transcriber had enough to do just getting the names straight. The point w/ wrong year is that not every page is marked, so you have to read month and day along left edge and double check the pages are in consecutive order. Throw into the mix, that you are seeking the Michael Burke, son of Michael Burke, not the cousin Michael Burke and you/we read it while keep reminding ourselves the birth year of the M.B. we want. Thank the heavens our Irish Catholics refused to turn over Church docs to the English. They're kinda like out little stash.
