    3. Barb, thanks for reminding us all when this show airs. I have mine set to tape. The week before the new season started the station replayed a number of past shows that I also taped. I had seen some but not all. Now every night I play one and almost caught up. I really enjoy the shows, not so much to see the star finding their genealogy but the process. Where the records are found. Question to all: do you think the show reseaches a bunch of celebrities and if they have an interesting tree that can be proved, they are asked to do the show or do they ask the celebrity and then because of their excellent research skills, they just find interesting things? -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com [email protected]

    3. Pat, I think they mostly start with the celebrity, but I believe they ask for basic information in order to do some preliminary research and make sure there's a story there before they actually confirm the celebrity on the show. I went to a "Who Do You Think You Are?" event at the Paley Center for Media in NYC a couple of years ago, where they showed an episode and had a panel interview with the producers, and they told a story of Blair Underwood being at a party with Lisa Kudrow, and he went up to her and said, "I want to be on your show." And that's how he got on it. But they also mentioned that some of the most enthusiastic celebrities actually are bad candidates for the show, because, they're already into their genealogy and, when approached about the show, have a stack of research already done. Since so much of the program's format is taking the celebrity on a journey, someone who has already found the interesting stories in their ancestry isn't going to get on it. If I recall correctly, they did say that some people just don't have an interesting enough story to create an episode around.
