A James River [VA] Correspondent of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes: "HAXALL's mansion and the mansion beyond it, owned and occupied by Col. HILL CARTER, of whom I have spoken in several of my former communications, were used by our forces as hospitals for the wounded, during the fights of Monday and Tuesday. In our movement to this place, we were compelled to leave many of the wounded at these houses. This was absolutely necessary, as it would have endangered their lives by removing them. We have learned the rebels a lesson, and they treat our wounded with kindness and respect. The Commander of the Maratanza*, yesterday, brought his guns to near upon the shores in the neighborhood of these mansions. An armed party was sent ashore who rescued some thirty-six Union wounded soldiers and Dr. MARTIN RIZER, Surgeon of the Baxter [???] Zouave Regiment, together with two rebel Surgeons, who were afterwards allowed to go on shore, as it is a rule, I believe, not to take Surgeons prisoners. The following are the names of the rescued prisoners: George H. Allen, Second New-Jersey; Andrew Ducher, First New-York Chasseurs; Charles Dorry, Fifty-third Pennsylvania; B.E. Ponte, Fourth Maine; Alonzo H. Suckney, Fourth Maine; James H. Richardson, Fiftieth New-York; Charles Ross, Twenty-ninth Massachusetts; Jacob P. Davis, Fourth Maine; J.R.
