    2. The Evening Telegram New York, NY Thursday, January 7, 1897 Page 3, Column 3 THIRTY TIMES IN JAIL Gallagher Was Released From Blackwell's Island Yesterday and Was Sent Back Today. James Gallagher, twenty seven years old, who says he resides at No. 33 West Eighteenth street, was released from the Workhouse on Blackwell's Island, yesterday, having completed a term of six months' imprisonment for assault. This was his twenty-ninth visit to the Island, and today for the thirtieth time In his life. He was arraigned a prisoner In Jefferson Market Police Court on a charge of disorderly conduct. It was Patrolman Spencer of the West Twentieth street station, who arrested him this time, and the hour of the capture was 4:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Spencer saw Gallagher and another man quarrelling at the corner of Sixteenth street and Eighth avenue. Gallagher attempted to assault the other man, who ran away. Gallagher hurled a piece of lead pipe, two Inches In diameter and about eight Inches long at him, narrowly missing his head. Spencer grappled with Gallagher and the prison bird showed flight. Spencer rapped for assistance. It took the combined efforts of five policemen to drag Gallagher, shrieking, swearing, fighting and kicking all the way, to the station. In Jefferson Market Police Court, today. Gallagher had no excuse to offer. He sullenly refused to answer any questions and Magistrate Flammer agaln sent him to the Workhouse, where he will again serve a term of six months. transcribed bu Barbb
