The Daily Mercury published in Huntsville, AL November 9 1890 Page 1, Column 6 Explosion of Naphtha ------- LONG ISLAND CITY, Nov. 8. – An explosion of naphtha gas at the Standard oil works in this city at noon Thursday set fire to the oil in a small tank, which exploded. The burning oil ran over Patrick Halloran and fatally injured him. Thomas Jackson was seriously burned, and John O’Day, a boy, was badly injured.
