    1. Re: [NY-IRISH] Police (employment) records
    2. Has anyone tried or been successful obtaining records from the NYFD? I have an ancestor who was a fireman and I sent an email to the NYFD Museum (?) that I found on a web site. No answer and it's been several weeks. Thanks, Ally -------Original Message------- From: Kathleen Scarlett O'Hara Naylor Date: 4/3/2014 12:34:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NY-IRISH] Police (employment) records Hi Kelly, I described where I wrote and how I requested information on an NYPD ancestor in this post: http://whereyoucamefrom.blogspot com/2009/08/obtaining-genealogical-information.html I should add that I have since successfully requested information about other ancestors where I was able to provide much less biographical information, with no problems. 3. I have not, although I have some FDNY ancestors as well - I might have to give it a try. I just googled "NYFD Personnel Records" and got this site: http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/after_fire/fire_records.shtml#records. It says that employee records are only available with "an original employee signed notarized authorization," but maybe calling the phone number listed would provide some information on whether there are any exceptions for genealogical requests, or records older than a certain date, etc. Katie On Thu, Apr 3, 2014 at 1:37 PM, [email protected] <[email protected]>wrote: > Has anyone tried or been successful obtaining records from the NYFD? > I have an ancestor who was a fireman and I sent an email to the NYFD Museum > (?) that I found on a web site.
