Hi, folks. Does anybody have the following book, or could you tell me where I could go to consult it? The Famine Immigrants Lists of Irish Immigrants Arriving at the Port of New York, 1846-1851: Volume IV April 1849-September 1849 Authors: Ira A. Glazier: Editor. Michael Tepper: Associate Editor If you do have the book, would you mind looking up the following for me? These are my great-great-grandparents. Morris (also spelled Maurice and Muiris) and Kathryn Higgins, arrived in either U.S. or Canada, 1850 They emigrated from Ireland in 1850 but I'm not sure if they landed in Canada or in the U.S. There's an 1850 census that shows them living in Moira. But I found a passenger list from 1850 showing a Morris Higgins (35, the right age to be my GGGF), arriving by himself in New York. Also, could someone look this up in the book: January 22, 1853 Passenger List. Ship: Ashburton, from Liverpool to New York: Catherine Higgins emigrating from Ireland to New York with sons Morris (age 10) and John (age 8). It's definitely my GGGM. Those are her sons' names and ages. Thanks for any help and/or info. Clare Higgins
I believe this used to be on the NARA site. They had all the names from the books indexed with ships and dates. However, it has been a long time since I used the site and I just checked and see they changed it around again. Maybe someone on the list has a direct url for it. > > The Famine Immigrants Lists of Irish Immigrants Arriving at the Port of New > York, 1846-1851: Volume IV April 1849-September 1849 > Authors: Ira A. Hi Clare, I don't have the book you were looking for but on Ancestry I found the following which may be some new information regarding your family. 1860 U.S. Federal Census - Morris Higgins, age 40, birth about 1820 in Ireland. 1860 residence Ward 1, Hudson, NY, Columbia County, dated June 15, 1860. There is no house # or street name listed on the census, but living with Morris were: Catharine Higgins, age 40 Morris Higgins, age 20 John Higgins, age 16 Crneilus (probably Cornelius) Higgins, age 13 Michael Higgins, age 4 Morris Sr. was a laborer and son Morris Jr. was a moulder. I could not locate this family again in the 1870 Census, the only person I did find was Cornelius Higgins now living in Ward 4, Albany, NY (again no actual house number or street). I am guessing this is the same Cornelius from the 1860 Census and in 1870 may have married. It appears this Cornelius is either living at a hotel, or with the hotel owner's family. Maybe it will mean something to you (or not) Felix McCann, age 48, hotel keeper Burdsalia McCann, age 26 Cornelius McCann, age 17, hotel clerk Kate McCann, age 16 Felix McCann, age 13 Maria McCann, age 10 Joseph McCann, age 9 Hattie McCann, age 6 Frank McCann, age 4 Kittie McCann, age 3 George McCann, age 2 Edward McCann, age 1 Kittie Dyer, age 16, cook Bridget Higgins, age 24, domestic Cornelius Higgins, age 24, boatman Wherever these folks were living it was probably close to the waterfront as there were several other "boatmen" listed in nearby residences as well. Hopefully the above will be of some help to you.
