To Miz Scarlett Are the Grooms Index at the NYC NARA online? I'm trying to find my grandparents marriage somewhere in NYC with no luck so far. William Taggart married Harriett G. Nevins on 17 Mar 1894. Thank you for any help or suggestions.
My GGGGF was John Taggart, born about 1830 in Ireland--lived 59 Laight St. in Manhattan in 1880. Wife: Bridget Quinn. One known child, Mary Taggart, born Ireland 1850's, married John McNulty 1871 NYC. Maybe there's a connection? My ggrandfather was also John born Co Tyrone Ireland 1851 married Margaret McKeever 1872 in NYC. They lived in Manhatton also. They had 10 children. His father was Francis married to Mary Annie Breesen. John's siblings were William, Jane, Margaret, Mary and James. We could be related somewhere in this. Pat O'Fallon
FYI, I have McKeevers in Co. Tyrone -- be aware this is can be an alternate spelling of McIvor, so be open-minded when searching the name. (I know, you didn't say your McKeevers were from Co. Tyrone, but I just thought I'd mention it...) Claire K. There two sets of records here that you're conflating. NYC Municipal Archives have historic NYC BMD indexes and records. These are being indexed online at ItalianGen.org and GermanGenealogyGroup.com (as time, budget, and volunteers allow). Any years / boroughs not on these sites but at the Municipal Archives (e.g., excluding the modern BMDs) must be searched in person at the Municipal Archives. See the Municipal Archives list of holdings at http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/holdings.shtml . NARA NY purchased a copy of the NYS (excluding NYC) BMD indexes. These can only be viewed in person (but are not exclusive to NARA, of course -- you may find somewhere near you also purchased a copy of the microfiche index). So, if you're looking for a NYC M, the NARA fiche will not help you -- these are exclusively for "upstate" NY. You need the Municipal Archives records (with online indexes as above). HTH Claire K.
