This is a great post, Barbara, thanks. While I don't have any ancestors that I know of who were on or buried on Hart Island. My late mother-in-laws, first baby was born in Grasslands Hospital in White Plains and the baby died at birth and was buried there (1930ish). We went back there once to find his grave and there didn't seem to be many marked graves, let alone those of newborn babies. I know my mother in law was crushed when she saw it. Growing up in New Rochelle, it was a treat to go to City Island. We went there for a Friday dinner and then played some games in some of the places that had ski-ball and such. I wonder if it is still a tourist kind of place? > HART ISLAND---(Bronx County, NYC) in the Long Island Sound, near City > Island > The pictures on the site you sent are awesome in clarity and sentiment. Very touching and they reminded me of the last time I visited Grasslands. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
