Loved that post MizScarlett! My Irish ancestors were changed to Polish on one of the census. Never would have found them if it hadn't been for another researcher who helped. That said, I would like to know when NYS began to require a license for marriage. I went all over looking for a license application only to find out that in 1894 a license wasn't required here in NY. In fact, we live so close to the PA border many people crossed over to get married here since PA required the license. Toni Elmira, NY
