"I was looking for a McGuinness and only a few came up, so I put a space between the Mc and the G and quite a few more came up." --Grace Try Grace's space after the prefix trick on any searches you perform--that is the only way I found my McNulty great-grands in the 1880 census on Ancestry.com--their family members in the same town were transcribed with NO space after Mc, but they alone got transcribed with a space; they ONLY show in results for searches typed with the space. Another trick I have found to be useful is starting a name with an asterisk in a search. For some reason, very clearly written in the 1900 census is the last name Corgaughran for some of my Gaughran ancestors. A search for Gaughran NEVER gave this family in its results. Using *Gaughran as a search also brings out many more close spellings, misspellings, and mistranscriptions, and not just those that have a prefix at the front end. Best wishes! *Cathy
