Like Tee I remember our soldiers past and present almost everyday. Pat and Tee remembering loved ones is a wonderful thing and I believe helps us keep our ancestors in our hearts. My uncle, Staff Sgt. Thomas L. Durkin of the Army Air Corps was killed on Jan 24, 1944, he was a gunner. His plane was shot down and from reports I found just recently he was shot and went down with his plane, some of the other crewmen survived and were captured. He was buried in Liege, Belgium but his brother went overseas and brought him home. He is buried in the Long Island NY National cemetery. The other sad thing that happened that day is that his mother, my grandmother suffered a stroke that night, she turned to her husband while in bed and told him that "something happened to Tommy". She suffered three more stroked after that and according to her other children was never the same. Three of his brothers Walter, Joseph and Edward and three brothers-in-law, Edward Quinn, Vincent Janniello, and Arthur "Willy" Williams also fought in World War ll they all survived and I am happy so say they lived to be old men. Many of my cousins and my son, have served in the military and for that I am forever thankful. There will be a "National Moment of Remembrance'' that will occur at 3 p.m. (local time) on Memorial Day for all our veterans past and present and for all the men and women that are serving our country, so please think of them at this time and always.
