    1. [NY-IRISH] ADMIN MSG: spam email sent
    2. Pat Connors
    3. The list just posted an email with the subject, "hello friend". Do NOT click on the link in the body of the email, it is spam and could also infect your computer. Since I have had this happen to me when I signed up on Facebook, I know the 'so-called' poster is upset. His address was spoofed and made to look like the email was from him but it wasn't. This is a good time to warn: if you ever get an email, either personally sent to your email address or one posted to a list with just a link in the body, be suspicious and just delete it. As a list admin, I stop most before they hit the lists but they are getting trickier and some get through the filters. So, if you join a social program, like Facebook, beware that they copy your Address Book from your computer. Then if they have poor security, scoundrels from all over the world hack into them and get all those email address and send out the spam emails with the person's email address. Also, be careful when you go to websites through search engines, even Google. Some searches will take to sites that can infect a virus in your computer. Only go to sites that you know are safe. While the current post to the list is not open to discuss, discussing this problem is open, especially if one wants to offer ways on how to keep our computers secure. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento, CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
