    3. Barb My grandmother came to Manhattan from Barbane, near Broadford, Eastern side of Clare in 1906, having been put off the land (100+ acres), along with an older brother and younger sister,  by a stepmother, within months of the death of her mother, my great-grandfather, Thomas Burke. My grandmother, Minnie Burke, married Tom Houlihan, an impoverished nogoodnik, in New York.  She bitterly / sadly referred to her evil stepmother, only a handful of years older than she was, as Black Biddy. BURKES:  mid 1650 from Bawnmore, County Kilkenny toCounty Clare.1787 – John, Patrick and MichaelBurke bought the lease of Barbane, 503 acres. So now you know a little about yet another BURKE family. Best to you Bob              -     more     - Barb, your mention of the address on Downing Street got me started.  That crosses Bedford Street, a block or so from Sheridan Square. Minnie (Burke) and Tom Houlihan, my grandparents lived right there, Bedford Street or Morton Street - their first children were born and died there, before moving uptown.  From the 1910 (or 1915) census I remember seeing other family members within a block or so of there. This is my memory of work I did some years ago.  Do we have something to talk about?  I'll be glad to give you my phone number if you wish. Since Ancestry changed their homepage a couple of years ago, I can no longer access via ED #. Backstory For twenty years the nuns, who hold [present tense] my grandfather's and his two sister's admittance papers to an orphanage, lied to me and said these children "were never there." I'd hoped to resolve this before my mom passed 4 yrs ago. Been at it 35+ years. Finally, they said that our full-orphan children were taken from 1156 Third Avenue, NY, NY 10065 in late October 1909, after their Irish immigrant father died at 34 Downing St, Greenwich Village 10014. These neighborhoods are not near each other. I'd just like to see who was living at 1156 Third Ave in 1910 ED # 1137. Thanks for any ideas.
