You'll see misleading photos of multi-ethnic, happy families that imply the Mormons aka Latter Day Saints aka LDS are behind it. They're not. The present day site, FamilySearch.org is the true, generous work of the Mormons/LDS church. BACKSTORY The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with members referred to as Mormons, practices re-baptism of the dead...for salvation. Mormons are required to research their ancestral lines, and submit them to their church. This is why the LDS church is the reputed authority of genealogical work.
