In Tony McCarthy's book about sleuthing down your Irish ancestors, he recommends searching RC and COI records, especially during the Irish Holocaust era. Then, if a RC "took the soup" during the famine era, they may have been considered COI. Also RC folks visibly converted to COI to receive food.
