As already noted on the list, the following message was spam and one should not click on it's link. irenersalazar, you need to go into your Comcast program and change your password, using both letters and numbers. Those on the East Coast who check the NY Irish list early find spam messages before I even get up. And while you are trying to be helpful, when a number of listers post to the list about spam, it would only be helpful if you didn't copy the link in your message! I believe a couple of you were trying to make others aware but at the same time you just copied the whole spam message without deleting the link. Therefore, YOU WERE SENDING ANOTHER SPAM MESSAGE. In the future, if you don't know how to edit a repeated message, please refrain from trying to warn others. Eventually, I will wake up, get some coffee and sit down to my computer and take care of the lists that I admin. FOR THOSE WHOSE MESSAGES HAVE NOT POSTED TO THE LIST: Okay, I wonder how many times, over the years, I have posted this same message: If you are replying to a message and your email program automatically repeats the message that you are replying to, please take the time to delete most of the repeated stuff especially if it is a whole digest, keeping just the part you are replying to. I get every message to the list to both of my email programs (pacbell, gmail). On the pacbell account I get them in the digest format and on the gmail account, I get them by single message. So, first thing in the morning, I go through my pacbell mail and then go to my gmail which I only use for the lists that I admin. I found early on that when I looked at my pacbell mail, which was digest (all messages posted to the list the day before and sent in one email at the end of the day) that if people who posted a message from the digest and their email program automatically repeated the whole digest and not just the message they were replying to, it was hard to figure out what was new (the reply) and what was old. I tried posting to the various lists that I admin and asked them to please trim (delete) most of the repeated digest and just keep the part you were replying to. If you have been part of this list for very long, you have seen that message here on this list probably 4 times a year. Since I found that some just didn't understand or just didn't care, I went into the list's admin utilities and set the size of message so if they were larger that the size I set, they would be held for my approval and would not go directly to the list. This morning when I got up, there were two being held from the same person. Both look like the same exact message. Okay, if it is held, it cannot be released by me till I get up. And, if you are sending it from the East Coast it will be a long wait till I get up and decide whether to release it to the list or not. Today, I have decided to send both back and not release them. The above is again a plea, if you want to post a message to the list as a reply to a message that was in your digest, remember to cut out the repeated stuff that does not relate to your reply. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com nymets22@gmail.com
