    2. Pat, Is there a time limit on death certificates? That is, can recent ones be requested? Nora In a message dated 2/7/2011 3:16:17 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, _nymets22@gmail.com_ (mailto:nymets22@gmail.com) writes: I got this from a friend: If you know the certificate number, and want to order it from the LDS, you'll need to look up the correct Film Number in the catalog at FamilySearch.org. Do this VERY carefully; it's very easy to pick the wrong film, & waste $2.00. You can print out the order form at: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/RG/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Aid=&Gid=& Lid=&Sid=&Did=&Juris1=&Event=&Year=&Gloss=&Sub=&Tab=&Entr y=&Guide=FReqMicrofilm.ASP (You'll need to copy & paste this URL in sections, as it is too long to be a clickable link.) Or, at www.familysearch.org, Select the following on the "Search" tab: Research Helps > Sorted By Document Type Then scroll down a little and select: "Requests for Photocopies - Census, Books, Microfilm, or Microfiche [Description] [PDF] 31768" >From the next screen, you can download a PDF of the form to order photocopies of certificates. The cost is $2.00 for each certificate, with a $4.00 minimum per order. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hope that helps. 3. Hi Nora, since I haven't used this service and my friend gave me the 'how to order' stuff, I can only guess. I would think they only give out the certs for the records they have on films. So, check the films and see what is their latest year. I further guess, probably a 50 year wait before the Family History Library is allowed to film records...a guess. > Is there a time limit on death certificates? 3. If you know the county where a person died, and can prove relationship, you can probably order one trom the county. In SD, you can go to any county and request copies for anyone who died in the state, with proof of relationship. Lorraine Leslie Besmer
