I saw no link or info either! Clare, I once had a first cousin in PA. Her mother was my father's sister, Ann Scanlon. Her father, Sam Wainer, was just about the nicest person possible and I saw him only once when I was just a child. Clare had a sister. Not sure of her name. I have just returned to this list, as in the past, it was one of zee very nicest lists ever. But I am researching just one family from long ago and I am from far away. You're so right about unusual/usual things being part and parcel with being a NYC kid. I remember being ushered onto the set of the Ernie Kovacs show while strolling the halls of a TV station back in the old days. Together with my friends and a few others we comprised an audience of "23 passing strangers", as we were referred to in my one and only TV "credit". Kovacs was an innovator, just then exploring the possibilities of live TV. Don't remember if Edie Adams and/or The Nairobi Trio was yet a part of his sthick. Some of the less obvious people (other than family, close friends) in our lives really make the world go round in such a good way. My sympathies, Barb.I have to say I am tickled to see you mention The Merry Mailman. I don't think there are many of us who remember him but I certainly do. I was on that show as one of the kids in the peanut gallery--a Howdy Doody reference but I don't remember what the kids were called on the Merry Mailman.
Thank you, Barb, for sharing about dear Mr. Quinn. What a lovely memory. I am replying just to you because I'm delighted to learn that someone else remembers The Merry Mailman! And I believe I have been in Accord, NY (near Kripplebush?). These people who are public servants - but so much more - really touch our lives, don't they? Thank you. Growing up in the 50's we Ray Heatherton on B&W TV as "The Merry Mailman." Two decades later we had John Quinn as our real-live mailman in Westchester. I always appreciated John's sober wit, great stories and scruples. Many heartfelt thanks to John during some overstressed years. Last Sunday, the former Trinity Chapel, an Episcopalian satellite of Trinity-Wall Street since 1855, located at 24 West 25th Street, NY, NY was demolished by a three-alarm fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic places. Also, the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission described the cathedral has “it special character, historic significance, and aesthetic interest and value of the development, heritage, and cultural characteristics of New York make it irreplaceable.” The Cathedral of St. Sava was the only Serbain church in New York. Talking about genealogical organizations and transcription projects.... Member-volunteers from the Troy Irish Genealogy Society (TIGS) just finished transcribing interment records of St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown Road, Waterford, New York. https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Waterford,_New_York We're talking 17,237 names, folks! This project covers years 1862 to 2013! This is one ambitious Irish group and our Pat Connors was a founding mother. To search this and other transcription projects, go to the TIGS website > http://www.troyirish.com just click on "Projects" then use the drop down menu under "Cemeteries." Troy, New York was another Hudson River town with a thick Irish history. Barb MizScarlettNY@aol.com

Yes, thanks to IGG/GGG I have found many BMD certs. Currently I am transcribing index cards for 'Richmond County Grooms, 1892-1897, a way to give back to the genealogy community. I'm sure they could use more transcribers, check their web sites. Do not have the dates as my info is misplaced, so I will give general dates. Ann Sheedy married Patrick Clancy in Co Clare, Ireland. She was born in Lisnafaha. Patrick died in Ireland I believe and Ann, I believe, came to NY with her many children. In Philly were her two brothers, Michael and Patrick Joseph Sheedy. In a census record [1920/ 30?] two Clancy children appear who must be her children. A Scanlon or two are his sister Margaret's offspring. There is an adopted child who either belongs to Uncle Joe or to his son Anthony. Joe died approximately 1936 and Daniel Scanlon left. Anyone on this list have any knowledge about these Clancy boys and in addition the adopted boy? Thank you.
