I think all will be okay and the archives will be restored. They are making big changes as far as servers go. When I move my very small website (in comparison to Rootsweb), things got misplaced, or never arrived. It took me weeks to get all the links aligned properly and I have a very small website. If your ancestor lived in a house that was still standing circa 1939, you may be in luck. Through FDR's Works Projects program, every building in Greater NYC was photographed in black and white. These are called the WPA Tax Photos. If you ever tried to photograph a NYC building, the streets can be so narrow that you can't capture the entire building in your viewfinder.
